Picture notes |
A watercolour titled "Household Gods" was exhibited at both the CSA ([009], 12gns) and the ASA ([142], 12gns) in 1924.There is a half-tone copy in the UK and two at TePapa Archives (CA000421/5&6) described as "Household gods at 'Seafield' Dunedin (Silver jug with red tea cups, blue (Meissen) sugar bowl on a silver tray)". A watercolour titled "Teacups" was exhibited in 1928 at the NZAFA [206] 10gns, and at the OAS [278] 12gns. What appears to be the same painting is reproduced in Art in New Zealand Vol 1 No 4 June 1929, Plate II p207, under the title "Tea-cups", but it is described as being an oil, presumably a mistake.
We assume there was only ever one painting. The image is of the original watercolour.
MH recorded in her diary of 26 Feb 1941 sending "Household gods" to Taeiri aerodrome 8 gns - odd. |
