The cottage was built by Charles Hill on his 3 1/2 acre estate near Melbourne Road in Island Bay , Wellington. Marie Burnette (nee Everton), daughter of Doris Everton grew up in the cottage. Marie recalls it was originally a pavillion for the private bowling green in front of the cottage (the bowling green was originially intended as a tennis court and later was planted as a cherry orchard). Charles built a larger house on the corner of Liffey Crescent and Melbourne Road where Min continued to live after his death. |
